June 15 HP Releases Windows 7?HP has jumped the gun so to speak with Windows and Touch by taking the power of Microsoft Surface and putting it on a iMac like 22" LCD all in one. Based on Windows Vista Home Premium the unit sports a huge LCD, webcam, and 4GB of ram but the key feature is what HP is calling the HP TouchSmart Software Suite. It's not clear if it fully supports all the Surface features or if it's even Surface on the Desktop but from the web demo it certainly appears so. In store demonstrations certainly pointed to it being Surface as the presentation said it would automatically sync your portable devices, had the same picture viewing tools and one rep referred to it as having the "next version of Windows." Has Your DNS Been Hijacked? Here's one that appears to have been ignored by just about everyone and if you’re not using DNS Forwarders on your Windows Servers you may have had your DNS “hijacked” and not even know it. It appears ICANN changed the IP address of the L Root Server some time ago however it’s highly unlikely your own DNS server knows anything about this. What makes this a “hijack” is it appears when the IP changed over somebody else continued serving up as a Root Server so instead of a DNS lookup failing you actually got a response and likely even a correct one. The problem is since these fake root servers are not owned and operated by ICANN there is no telling at what point they might start redirecting traffic to an incorrect address, redirecting you to a server full of Trojans or other attacks and not to mention the data collection these fake servers are getting. So are your servers at risk? If your running a Windows Server and your own DNS it’s highly likely your at risk. This is easy enough to check by opening the DNS MMC:
From there right click on the server and bring up the Properties:
Now over on the Root Hints tab you can see what your current L.root-server is pointed at and change it if required. The incorrect address is shown and we will manually change that to the correct IP of 199.7.83.42:
Just click “Edit” and enter in the New IP, Add it, Remove the Old IP and click ok:
I would recommend you clear the cache, restart DNS and for good measure run a IPConfig /flusdhdns:
